Charles Richard, Bisson

1924-2020

On March 25, 2020,
at the age of 95 years and 9 months,
Charles Richard (Dick) Bisson passed away quietly after a brief illness.

From a first marriage (1951-1997) to Loretta (Larry) Albert of Madawaska, ME, he leaves behind two sons Fr. Peter Bisson, S.J., and Paul Bisson (Karen Graham); his grandchildren Nathan and Quinn Bisson; in-laws and many nieces and nephews. From a second marriage (2000) he leaves behind France Hébert, his wife of nearly 20 years, and stepchildren Michel Hébert (Anne), Nicole D. Albert (Marc) and Lynne-Marie St. Onge (Bob).
Richard was the son of Charlie Bisson and Florence Perry, a brother to Lucy, Lillian and Ernest who all pre-deceased him.

A beloved husband, father, stepfather, uncle, friend and co-worker, Richard was known for his playful sense of humour, cheerful disposition and quiet wisdom. He loved his work with the public at the Edmundston Post Office and enjoyed his retirement just as much. He was honoured to have served his country in World War II and was a life-long member of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The family is very grateful to the doctors and the staff at Les Résidences Jodin Inc. for their competence and the loving attention they gave Richard while he was in their care.

Richard's memorial will be celebrated in Edmundston once the pandemic restrictions are lifted. Details will be announced in due course.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. My early encounters with him were at the old Post Office where he was always friendly; jovial and liked to tease us kids. I remember seeing him later walking with a limp (late '40's ) and dad telling me it was a war wound and that he was a hero. That is the way I saw him afterward.. An honour to have known him. Our sincere sympathies to the families. We've known Mr. Bisson for a good number of years. We had great respect and admiration for this warrior. I enjoyed having a chat with him around Armistice Day. It was always a pleasure to go see him and thank him for his services during World War 2.
Also, I did not forget the many years I used to pick up the mail at the post office at the corner of Canada and Church where he and the others were hiding behind a wired screen. It was kind of scary. Rest in peace dear soldier (Mr. Bisson), you are a hero to us.

Please accept our sincere sympathy. Mr. Bisson room was right next to my Dad’s and we used to bring him some chocolats and candy. He would be so happy to see us even after my Dad passed away, we would go visit him every Sunday while visiting my Mom. He would call me Diane every time (Albert Pelletier wife), it was so funny when he did. I am going to miss him very much. He will watch on all of you. Our prayers are with all his family.
