Caron, Linda

1945 - 2026

Maryjune (Linda) Caron,
a 48 years resident of Dracut,
passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer
on May 19, 2026 at the age of 80.
Born in Edmundston, New-Brunswick,
in December of 1945,
she was the eldest of two children born
to the late Cécile Lavoie Hammond and Omer Hammond.

She received her early education in the Edmundston school system in 1966. Linda graduated from Hôtel-Dieu de l'Assomption in Moncton, NB, with a degree in nursing. Once she moved to the states, Linda continued her education at Lesley College (now Lesley University) and completed her degree in business management. A defining moment in Linda's career was her work in a mission clinic in Lesotho, South Africa in 1968.

Committed to delivering compassionate care, she would travel on horseback to treat patients in their homes. Linda worked for over 40 years in the field of nursing with experience ranging from labor and delivery to hospice care and retired in 2009.

Linda's commitment to community service far extended her professional life. She served on the Lions Club of Lowell, MA, Dracut, MA, and even visited a chapter in Fort Kent, ME. Around the holidays, you could find her scouting for deals at the now-closed Christmas Tree Shop, buying gifts for less fortunate families and donations for the Boys and Girl Club of Lowell.

Linda lived a full social life, making friends at Bingo halls, churches and restaurants everywhere she went. Although she never became an American citizen, she was passionate about U.S. politics and would happily engage in debates with either side of the aisle. When settling down to relax at home, you could find her knitting her latest project, watching Antiques Roadshow or one of the many reality shows on the TLC network.

Linda was most proud of her family and many friendships. She married her husband, Lionel (Leo) Caron in June of 1970, whom she is survived by. With Leo, Linda had two children, Renee Dixon and Marc Caron, also of Dracut. Linda leaves behind her grandchildren, Linda Dixon and Ernest Dixon IV of Chelmsford and their wives, Nicole Dixon and Felipa Delacruz. Linda is also survived by her younger brother Jean-Louis Hammond, her nieces Helene of New-Brunswick and Jessika of Ontario, her nephew, Jean of Prince Edward Island and her daughter-in-law Lisa Braasch of Dracut, MA.

Per Linda's wishes, there will be no wake held. Linda's funeral mass will take place Friday, September 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs church. Interment of her remains will take place at parish cemetery in Edmundston, NB.
