Madore, Gilman

1934-2014

Gilman Leo Madore of Ste-Anne, New Brunswick passed away August 7, 2014 with family by his side.  Gilman was born July 25, 1934 in Keegan, Maine and was the son of Denis Madore and Leona Madore (Cyr).  He was the second of seven siblings.  He was predeceased by his sisters Kate Gagnon and Cecile Madore and survived by his sisters Edna Talbot, Germane Madore and Carmen Madore known by all as “The Twins” of St. Petersburg, Florida and his brother Percy Madore of Van Buren.

Gilman was fortunate to share his life with many people.  During a building boom in the mid 1950’s, Gil moved to Melrose Park, Illinois.  There he met Nancy Strzezewski and they were married.  Gil and Nancy got busy building a family and brought into this world seven children in eight years.  This is typical of Gil who was of the opinion that if you’re going to do something….do it well.  Gil’s children are Kevin Madore of Skowhegan, ME; Mike Madore of Vassalboro, ME; Sharon Madore of Belfast, ME; Lynn Brochu of Benton, ME; Theresa Madore of Waterville, ME; Gilman Madore Jr. of Winslow, ME and Dr. Gigi Madore of New York, NY.  This marriage ended in divorce in 1972.

During the mid 70’s, Gil met Bernadette Gagnon and they were married in May, 1985.  Gil moved to Ste-Anne, NB to be with his extended family of Nathalie Gagnon-Cyr of Moncton, NB; Pierrette Gagnon of Ste-Anne, NB; Hermel Gagnon of Edmundston, NB; Conrad Gagnon of Moncton, NB; and since deceased Georgette Gagnon, Norman Gagnon and Gerald Gagnon.  Unfortunately, Bernadette took ill and passed on to the next life.

In the late 1980’s, Gilman met Adrienne Jean of Ste-Anne, NB who became his friend, confidant and common law wife.  They enjoyed retirement together by four wheeling in northern Maine and spending their winters in Florida.  Gil’s extended family grew to include Anne Gauvin of Ste-Anne, Claude Jean of Ste-Anne, Louise Jean of St. John, Marcel Jean of Grand Falls, Armand Jean of Grand Falls and Jacqueline Jean of Siegas.

Gilman was well known for his physical strength, Herculean if you will.  During the late 60’s, Gil owned and operated the Come Back In tavern in Van Buren and during the 70’s and 80’s he owned and operated the Hotel Van Buren, better known as “The Yacht Club”.  Gil was a volunteer firefighter in Van Buren and an active member of the Pine Runners four wheel club.

Gil was a man you can count on.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always there to stretch forth a helping hand.  Gil had a great sense of humor and relied on a common sense approach to life.  Gilman Madore is best remembered as “A GOOD MAN”.

A celebration of his life will take place at J.B. Côté & fils Ltée funeral home, 9 Church Street, Ste-Anne of Madawaska, Wednesday August 13, from 3 till 5 in the afternoon, with the interment in the parish cemetery after 5 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Pine Runners ATV club in Van Buren, Maine.
