O'Briain, (Sheila) Frances

1933-2023

Frances O’Briain, 90, of The Briarlea in Moncton, NB, passed away in the early hours on Friday December 8, 2023. Born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland, she was the daughter of late Simon and Ellen Mary (Kearney) O’Connell.

She grew up in a farming family with 8 siblings in rural County Kerry. She trained as a nurse in England and immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario in 1957. It was there where she met the love of her life, Niall O’Briain, who had immigrated the year before from Dublin. They initially moved to Moncton, NB and eventually settled Edmundston, NB where they raised their family. She worked as a nurse at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Edmundston and the Victoria Order of Nurses. Frances and Niall were very active in the local community and church and enjoyed a wide network of friends. In their later years, Baker Lake was the centre of their lives and welcomed family and friends, building lifelong memories for all who shared time with them.

She will be sorely missed by her 4 children: Barra O’Briain, Deirdre (Ken) Kyle, Kieran O’Briain and Nora (Chris) Larocque and 14 grandchildren: Liam (Kayleigh) O’Briain, Declan O’Briain, Ceire Storey, Teaghan O’Briain, Sasha Larocque, Rourke O’Briain, Eibhlin Storey, Carolyn Larocque, Shaelyn O’Briain, Justin Larocque, Broghan O’Briain, Niall O’Briain, Maeve O’Briain and Caitlyn O’Briain and her siblings Helena (Eilo), Patrick, Pauline, and Colette.

She was predeceased by her husband, Niall Padraig O’Briain, her sisters: Josephine, Mary, Kathleen, and Theresa.

At her request there will be no visitation and a mass will be held on Monday June 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral Immaculate Conception, Edmundston. She will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Cemetery, Edmundston, NB with her husband.

Sort of the end of the Park Street Era. That was quite a time.
I trust Baker Lake is still the focal point of good memories and family reunions ... as it should be

What a beautiful tribute photo ! I was deeply touched thereby. I remember Niall from the days of my employment at Fraser Paper , and he is remembered with respect. I did not know Mrs. O' Briain, but the photo reveals a beautiful and elegant lady, and depicts a handsome couple . May the grief that you are presently experiencing be superceded and swallowed up by an abundance of fond memories and gratitude to God for having graced your lives with their presence. And may the love, joy, peace, warmth, and happiness, of which the tribute photo is so emblematic, comfort you all, and bring smiles to your hearts, both now, and in years to come. Please accept my sincere condolences.
